Dust Across the Solar System: Rings, Meteors, Comets, Asteroids, Populations, Processes, and Impacts

Session ID#: 282781

Session Description:
Small particles drive big planetary processes! This session highlights new studies regarding dust populations and their effects on planetary rings and exospheres, comets, asteroids, and meteoroids. With several active and imminent spacecraft missions carrying dust instruments, including the IMAP mission to study interactions between the heliosphere and the interstellar medium (dust instrument IDEX), DESTINY+ mission to the active asteroid Phaethon (dust instrument DDA), and Europa Clipper mission to Europa (dust instrument SUDA), the timing of this discussion is especially relevant.

We invite contributions including: cometary dust environments, comae, and dust tails; dust activity on comets and asteroids; dust surface transport and evolution; dust hazards for spacecraft and crewed missions; origin, evolution, structure, dynamics, and composition of planetary rings; interaction of planetary rings with ionospheres, magnetospheres and interplanetary dust; characterization of dust populations, exospheres, meteoroids, and dust-atmosphere interactions; hypervelocity impacts and dust chemistry; research related to dust instruments and their data.
