Land Surface Hazards Across Landscapes: Linking Triggers, Processes, and Consequences

Session Description:
Land surface hazards arise from a wide range of climatic and geologic drivers and often reflect interactions among atmospheric, hydrologic, geomorphic, and geologic processes. Extreme weather, wildfires, earthquakes, and volcanic activity can trigger landslides, debris flows, erosion, sediment transport, and other landscape responses, while climate change can alter the frequency, magnitude, and spatial distribution of these hazards. Land surface hazards may result from single events or emerge through sequences of related processes as landscapes and the critical zone adjust over time. This session welcomes studies of geomorphic systems across diverse environments, with an emphasis on the processes that generate, connect, and alter hazards across the landscape. We invite contributions using observational, remote sensing, theoretical, modeling, and applied approaches to improve understanding of hazard occurrence, evolution, and impacts across a range of landscapes.
