Software citation is a cornerstone of reproducible science, yet it remains a persistent challenge to integrate into writing and publishing workflows. This session will bring together researchers, developers and infrastructure providers to address this gap and address the following core questions: Why is software citation necessary? What are the unique implementation needs? And most importantly, what technical and cultural solutions can drive community-wide adoption? The session will extend prior work in Earth Sciences and also continue conversations initiated at the April 2026 Software Citation Workshop at UCSD. Presenters will showcase actionable, cross-disciplinary solutions, report on the progress of innovative citation tools and demonstrate how they can be effectively adapted for broader Earth and space science applications.
