Amplifying the Value of Earth Science Information for the Society

Session Description:
From daily tasks like weather forecasting to advancing UN sustainable development goals, earth science data and information play critical roles in society. Despite the importance, there is a lack of appreciation for earth science information by society’s many users. To address this underappreciation, we should explore transdisciplinary approaches that highlight and amplify the value of Earth science data and information. This would enhance commitments for future investment in research and development to further advance Earth science information systems. This session will showcase various approaches to quantify and communicate the value of Earth science information for the society including but not limited to:
- Economic studies that evaluate the value of Earth science information.
- Case studies of specific contributions of Earth science information to society.
- Novel storytelling and communication of how Earth science information benefit society.
- Design and implementation of engagement activities that demonstrate the value of Earth science information to society.
