Air Pollution and Well-Being: Bridging Surface, Space, and Modeling Studies

Session Description:
This session will foster discussions among groups working across diverse scales and methodologies to quantify air pollution and exposure, aiming to better understand both quantifiable and qualitative impacts on health, equity, and well-being. It will feature studies using: 1) surface data, including street-level in situ data, surface network, quantitative and qualitative data; 2) satellite-derived products; and 3) air quality modeling outputs. Street-level data collection increasingly incorporates community-based participatory research and community-engaged research approaches, integrating expertise from social scientists and health researchers to better represent community priorities and lived experiences. Meanwhile, advancements in satellite technology have improved monitoring of air composition near or at the surface with higher spatial and temporal resolution, and modeling efforts support the development of higher-resolution simulations for both outdoor and indoor air quality. Often pursued by separate scientific communities, these fields are increasingly interconnected. This session will highlight ongoing, completed projects, and foster cross-disciplinary collaboration.
