Session Description:
With the resurgence in space exploration comes a wave of Lunar missions, an expanding role of private players, and the participation of an increasing number of countries and space agencies. While this “Space Resurgence” era offers more opportunities in space-related sciences and exploration, a greater threat to the Earth and Lunar environments, and a strong requirement to maintain a sustainable perspective to space exploration, and on preserving the resources and unique scientific and cultural values of celestial bodies for future generations.
Committee on SPAce Research (COSPAR) of the International Science Council (ISC) is leading the effort to develop an Exploration Roadmap. This Road Map is a guiding document to promote science as a key driver of space exploration, to maximize the science return of exploration through international collaboration, and to aid stakeholders in aligning with a fair, equitable, and sustainable exploration strategy of the Solar System.
