Genesis, Evolution, and Characterization of Unconventional and Sustainable Geo-Energy Resources

Session Description:
Unconventional and sustainable geo-energy resources are critical for global energy security and the ongoing energy transition. However, the complex mechanisms governing their formation, evolution, and accumulation remain challenging to decipher. Understanding the genesis, pore connectivity, and fluid dynamics within highly heterogeneous reservoirs is essential for effective exploration and production. Concurrently, emerging subsurface technologies, including geothermal energy extraction, geologic hydrogen, and carbon storage, offer promising pathways for sustainable energy. We invite theoretical, experimental, field-based, and modeling contributions focused on the genesis, assessment, and characterization of these diverse resources. This session aims to advance fundamental geoscience and improve predictive frameworks for both unconventional hydrocarbons and sustainable subsurface energy systems.
