T13G:
Integrating Stress Geomechanics: Observations, Models, and Implications Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 54006

Session Description:
Stress geomechanics specifies how large-scale crust and small-scale rocks respond to strain, fluid and heat propagation, together providing essential information on understanding seismic behavior and tectonic settings. The stress state in geological structures or along plate boundaries can be determined through single or multiple approaches, including in-situ stress measurements, geophysical, geodetic, geothermal and/or hydrological approaches. These studies shed light on the state of stress and strain in the crust, including stress evolution by seismic and volcanic activity, crustal heterogeneity, and modeling for earthquake cycle. This session aims  to bring together multi-disciplinary studies on stress geomechanics, includingbut not limited, to scientific drilling, in-situ measurements, focal mechanisms of crustal and volcanic earthquakes, subsurface anisotropy analysis and applications of geomechanical models to earthquake forecasting, seismic hazard assessment, and engineering construction. We focus our discussion not only on the observations in association with physical models, but also interdisciplinary cooperation between various research fields.
