T24A:
Deep Structures of the Eastern Tethyan Orogenic Belt and Related Geodynamics Processes I

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 57125

Session Description:
The eastern Tethyan orogenic belt forms an active ~5000 km long continental collision/subduction belt, ranging from the Iranian plateau in the west to the Burma subduction zone in the east. The primary sources driving its formation are the collisions of India and Arabia with the southern margin of Asia which initiated during the Cenozoic and produced the Zagros and Himalayan orogenic belts, the Iranian and Tibetan plateaus, and also the Makran and Burma subduction zones. The crustal and upper mantle structures of this belt can provide unique constrains to understand the continental collision and subduction/collision transition processes. Numerous geophysical observations conducted in recent years across these orogenic systems allow in-depth exploration of the deep structures and related geodynamic processes. This session invites contributions to advance our understanding of the continental convergence in the Zagros-Pamir-Himalaya-Tibet-Burma belt from multiple geophysical disciplines, including, but not limited to, seismology, gravity, magnetotelluric, and numerical modeling.
