Monsoon: Formation, Variability, and Changes in the Future

Session ID#: 72739

Session Description:
Monsoon influences approximately two-thirds of the world’s population including their culture and economics. The anomalous behavior of the monsoon can lead to flooding, droughts, heat waves, and compounding economic losses that, in turn, exert profound impacts on human lives. Understanding the formation and variability of monsoon is essential to make skillful predictions, and reasonably projecting the changes of monsoon in the future climate is paramount to engage in appropriate adaptions.

This session welcomes contributions on all aspects of monsoon climate to share the recent advances in the formation, variability, and projection of the global monsoon in different regions or as a whole. Contributions including, but not limited to, observation, diagnosis, theory, modeling, prediction, and projection of the global monsoon system are highly encouraged.
