Modeling Soil Organic Carbon and the Role Data Plays In That Effort
Modeling Soil Organic Carbon and the Role Data Plays In That Effort
Session ID#: 72758
Session Description:
Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) is one of the largest components of the global carbon cycle and intrinsically linked with land surface biosphere due to the carbon stored in vegetation inevitably decomposing into the soil. Understanding how SOC reacts to environmental changes is a crucial research subject for assessing the impacts of climate change. This has led to more attention on SOC modeling and how the relevant processes should be formulated. However as SOC measurement campaigns are resource-heavy and spatially sparse, there are legitimate questions on how this empirical data should be used to support model development and application.
This session focuses on how SOC models are being developed to address these current challenges and, furthermore, how measurements can be used to validate and constrain these efforts to improve SOC models and their results. We encourage submissions on research relating to either or both of these subject matters.
