Climate Change Education and Outreach: From Knowledge to Action

Session ID#: 73899

Session Description:
With some success, climate change communication efforts have mainly focused on informing the public of the scientific evidence illustrating the drivers of climate change, the extent of adverse side effects already affecting the Earth, and the potential for future disasters. With the dire warnings from the 2018 IPCC Special Report, it is evident that information alone is not enough and often causes audiences to feel hopeless. If we are to succeed in saving the planet and future generations from the worst effects of warming the Earth, it is more urgent than ever that communication translates climate knowledge into accelerated actions to quickly bring about mitigation and adaption solutions.

This session will showcase communication strategies and the wide variety of lesson plans, activities, education and community initiatives, resources, and solutions for drawing down CO2 that have been successful with diverse audiences in the transition from climate change knowledge to action.
