Assessing Atmospheric Instrumental Uncertainty and Measurement Consistency

Session ID#: 76153

Session Description:
Fundamental to the value of large scale field studies and long-duration monitoring networks is the careful and quantitative assessment of uncertainties for all involved instruments used to measure atmosphere and its constituents. Part of this type of assessment includes evaluations of consistency between different instruments for the same parameter, which is required by  the analyses using these data. For example, air quality assessments rely on demonstrated consistency among similar measurements across monitoring networks as an ongoing effort. To date, the atmospheric community is still struggling to understand and resolve instrumental discrepancies in some measurements.  This session solicits presentations on the methods and outcomes of measurement comparisons and assessments of instrument uncertainties from both field studies and laboratory measurements of atmospheric parameters and chemical and aerosol species in air, using in-situ, off-line, and remote sensing approaches.
