MR004
Anelasticity and Rocks: Across Scales and Deformation Regimes

Session ID#: 76179

Session Description:
The session focuses on the study of anelastic properties of geomaterials and subsurface domains, including both the brittle and ductile regimes. We welcome laboratory experiments, numerical modeling, and field studies, with an emphasis on dispersion and attenuation of seismic waves due to viscoelastic deformation, poroelasticity (e.g., Biot theory), ductile flow, and fracture propagation. The session should stimulate discussion among communities studying the anelasticity of rocks at various temperature, pressure, strain and strain-rate regimes. The goal of the session is to allow such communities to benefit from one another’s contributions and to expand our capability of upscaling observations from the laboratory and numerical simulations and to improve the exploration and imaging of the subsurface.
