Advances in the application of remote sensing for biodiversity monitoring: Integrating data across scales and technologies
Advances in the application of remote sensing for biodiversity monitoring: Integrating data across scales and technologies
Session ID#: 76365
Session Description:
In the face of unprecedented global environmental change, monitoring and forecasting changes in biological diversity has never been more needed. Characterizing biodiversity patterns and understanding how and why these patterns change over time requires an interdisciplinary approach that combines multiple facets of biodiversity (from genes to ecosystems) on land, in the water, and in the air. This session will highlight advances in the use and application of remote sensing for biodiversity and ecosystem monitoring through the development of tools, technology, and products. Specific topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Combining data from sensors (optical and radar) and/or alternative data sources
- Automated data harmonization/Analytic Center
- Applications of machine learning / AI
- Tools to help users explore, understand, and apply data products
- New concepts for biodiversity observation systems or monitoring
- Animal tracking technology
