Nonlinear phenomena in the inner magnetosphere, modeling approaches and active experiments

Session ID#: 76656

Session Description:
Nonlinear wave-particle and wave-wave interactions in the inner magnetosphere are of growing importance to the space sciences community.  Self-consistent modeling of nonlinear phenomena is a challenge but is facilitated by increasing access to high performance computing resources.  Machine-learning or test-particle models are also powerful tools of investigation.  Current and planned spacecraft missions offer the opportunity to perform active excitation of nonlinear instabilities and provide both validation and inspiration for numerical codes.  The capabilities of laboratory experiments to simulate the space environment are also constantly improving.  Topics of interest include modeling techniques, modeling results, observations, and current and future experiments involving active excitation of nonlinear phenomena.
