Aligning Soil Organic Matter Mechanisms, Measurements, and Models Across Scales: Honoring the Complexity of Soil Processes
Session ID#: 76729
Session Description:
This session focuses on the integration of soil organic matter (SOM) (de)stabilization concepts and empirical measurements with models across spatial scales. Technological advances, combined with a recent paradigm shift, transformed the way we study and conceptualize soil organic matter. However, quantifying and parameterizing the various physical, chemical, and biological mechanisms regulating SOM bioavailability and turnover remains challenging, especially because these mechanisms operate across a wide range of spatial scales.
Experiments and modeling efforts utilizing newly applied technologies or methodologies to elucidate unifying processes and mechanisms of SOM (de)stabilization such as aggregate turnover, organo-mineral sorption, and organo-metal formation are of particular interest.
