Characterizing and Monitoring Land Change and Associated Ecosystem Responses Using Long-term Time Series Remote Sensing Data

Session ID#: 77528

Session Description:
Land cover and land use changes alter a large range of biological and physical conditions and can have profound impacts on terrestrial ecosystems and climate at regional to global scales. Recent advances in remote sensing and computer technologies have facilitated the use of large volumes of satellite imagery and associated spatial data for conducting land change assessments across large geographic areas at multiple temporal scales. These assessments can improve environmental modeling efforts and advance our understanding of the drivers of change and the impacts of land change on ecosystems. This session focuses on characterizing land change across large geographical areas at annual to decadal scales and assessing how ecosystem processes and climate respond to land change using time series satellite remotely-sensed data. We seek contributions that use these multi-temporal datasets to advance our scientific understanding of the types, trends, magnitudes, and consequences of land change and ecosystem responses.
