Frontiers of Subduction Zone Metamorphism: Fluids, Reactions, and Dynamics

Session ID#: 78349

Session Description:
Exhumed high pressure, ultrahigh pressure, and other related metamorphic rocks are the primary messengers from the deepest parts of subduction zones and represent key rocks to understand plate tectonics and the evolution of the Earth. Their study allows us to better constrain the dynamics of subduction interface processes, geochemical exchanges between the crust and mantle, spatiotemporal scales of fluid migration and interaction, as well as the thermal structures of subduction zones. However, the physicochemical properties and evolution of fluids at the metamorphic reaction front, and the velocity and rate of the fluid flow are still openly debatable.

We invite submissions from state-of-the-art research of subduction-related metamorphic rocks within a multidisciplinary scope, including field observations, geochemistry, experimental petrology, geochronology, and numerical modeling. Studies that help to constrain and link the roles of fluids, rates, and timescales of metamorphic reactions occurring during subduction and exhumation are particularly encouraged.
