Fluid-rock reactions in the crust: new data and methods in mineralogy, geochemistry, thermodynamics and kinetics

Session ID#: 81342

Session Description:
Fluid-rock reactions play a key role for element budgets in a wide array of geologic settings from shallow sedimentary basins to active geothermal systems and deeper magmatic-hydrothermal systems in the crust. The geochemistry of mineral solid solutions, trace elements, and isotopic signatures recorded in altered crustal rocks permits deriving snapshots of fluid-rock interaction processes through time and space. Thermodynamics permit further linking observations of natural systems with fundamental models based on laboratory experiments. Several approaches are used to study fluid-rock reaction paths as a function of pressure (P), temperature (T), composition (x), in time and space. The aim of this session is to provide a holistic overview of the different approaches used to interpret fluid-rock interaction, and the link between different disciplines in geosciences. We welcome contributions from experimental, numerical modeling, and field studies, and encourage combining approaches and applications in metamorphic petrology, geochemistry, mineralogy and economic geology.
