Experimental Approaches to Deformation and Flow in Nanoporous Mudrocks

Session ID#: 79837

Session Description:
Fine-grained nano-porous mudrocks play a critical role as natural gas and oil resources, seals for nuclear waste disposal and targets for carbon sequestration. However, it is still challenging to measure and predict their flow properties and geomechanical deformation reliably. Therefore, novel experimental approaches and interpretation methods are needed to characterize rock behavior effectively. This session aims to address: a) current difficulties facing accurate determination of flow properties, b) experimental results illuminating flow behavior and geomechanical effects, c) complex multi-phase flow behavior under different flow conditions, and d) novel techniques to assess properties of both non-fractured and fractured mudrocks.
