Geoscience Education without Borders or Boundaries
Geoscience Education without Borders or Boundaries
Session ID#: 80689
Session Description:
Every year, Geoscience Education programs take place across national borders and/or provide access to participants in ways that overcome traditional boundaries. Presentations will share experiences that bring people together across borders such as the 2018 International Geoscience Education Organization conference in Brazil; the International Earth Science Olympiads; the GIFT (Geoscience Information For Teachers) workshops at EGU; educational outreach programs aboard the R/V JOIDES Resolution; Polar Trek, Girls on Ice, and other teacher and student field experiences. This session also provides opportunities to spotlight programs that help erase traditional boundaries, such as IAGD events including people with visual, hearing, mobility, and other disabilities. Goals for this session include fostering connections among people and programs that may have thought were outliers, but which can be close partners among the world's geoscience education community. Another goal is to explore what research informs about the effectiveness of international geoscience education and expanded diversity experiences.
