Complexity of Urban Geosciences: from Big Data to Dynamics (Centennial session)
Complexity of Urban Geosciences: from Big Data to Dynamics (Centennial session)
Session ID#: 81630
Session Description:
Both geophysical and urban systems, are extremely variable over a wide range of time and space scales. Processes operating across these scales produce complex nonlinear interactions and extreme events, which are both key for climate adaptation and mitigation and obstacles to straightforward applications of standard techniques.
As a follow-up of the Centennial kick-off that underlined the importance of this challenge, this session focuses on recent progress in disruptive methodologies --such as scaling, multi-fractals, non trivial symmetries, complex networks, causality and information transfer-- to uncover the underlying dynamics from big data analysis (including unstructured data) and to pursue the development of a new framework of stochastic physics to better represent geophysical and urban systems, and their interactions.
