Impact of the Asian Summer Monsoon on the Composition of the Upper Troposphere and Lower Stratosphere

Session ID#: 82754

Session Description:
Emissions in the Asian monsoon region are increasing due to rapid population and economic growth. Convection during the summer monsoon coupled to surface emissions impacts the chemical and aerosol composition of the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere in this region. The monsoon system represents an effective transport pathway for pollutants to enter the stratosphere and therefore may contribute to future composition change. Accurate representation of the monsoon system in global chemistry-climate models is critical to predicting climate change. This session invites papers on all scales and processes coupling local emissions with regional and global composition and climate. Observations (ground, airborne, balloon, satellite) and model investigations (process studies, regional and global simulations) are welcome. In particular, we encourage contributions from recent field campaigns (e.g. SWOP, BATAL, StratoClim),
