High Speed Railways Seismology

Session ID#: 83706

Session Description:
Solving both scientific questions in solid earth sciences and related engineering problems extraordinarily relies on high resolution seismic structures of the Earth’s interior. If we can successfully employ roads with high traffic as seismic sources, they should well raise the resolution of seismic inversion. Among them, High Speed Railways (HSRs) are seismic sources with advantages of deterministic, repeatable, nearly evenly distributed, and high energy, forming a good starting point for well employing roads as seismic sources. Furthermore, HSR produce totally different signals from earthquakes and explosions, which should need different technology and brings forth its specific advantage engineering applications, and might form a new branch of seismology, HSR Seismology. In this session we encourage people with new thoughts, methods and technologies that will contribute to employ HSR signals as well as other transportation signals to solve related scientific and engineering questions, to present their progresses.
