Advances in African Hydrology and Climatology: Observations, Modelling and Sustainable Water Management

Session ID#: 85526

Session Description:
The African continent, in large part, lacks the density and frequency of hydroclimatic data compared to the rest of the world, while at the same time presents one of the greatest challenges and opportunities for sustainable water development. While global hydrological models and remotely sensed measurements include Africa, the uncertainty is largely unknown due to the sparse in-situ data. This session aims to bring together communities working on different aspects of African hydrology, climate and water resources management. Submissions on novel methods, including innovative monitoring technologies, geostatistics and uncertainty quantification, machine learning, and interdisciplinary studies addressing challenges across scales are encouraged. Topics may include fundamental and applied research in the areas of hydrological process understanding, vadose zone transport in tropical soils, flood forecasting and mapping, seasonal forecasting, sustainable resources planning, and climate impact assessment. Case studies related to the recent floods and water scarcity risks are also welcomed.
