Advances in Tectonic Geomorphology: the Interplay of Tectonics and Surface Processes
Session ID#: 85566
Session Description:
Tectonics are a primary forcing of surface processes, but the sensitivity and timescales over which surface processes respond to tectonics is still not fully understood. In turn, the quantification of geomorphic, erosional, and sedimentary signals is a powerful tool for unraveling patterns, rates and histories of tectonic activity, but this analysis remains non-trivial. However, recent advances in geochronological techniques (cosmogenic nuclides, luminescence dating, thermochronology, etc.), remote sensing and GIS, and numerical modeling offer new opportunities for exploring the interaction of tectonics and surface processes. In this session, we welcome studies that use these or other techniques to address open questions about the interplay of tectonics and surface processes across all temporal and spatial scales, and their potential feedbacks. We particularly encourage those studies that apply multiple methods, use novel approaches, and/or have broad implications.
