A Review of Climate Events as seen by ECOSTRESS

Abstract:
The ECOsystem Spaceborne Thermal Radiometer Experiment on Space Station (ECOSTRESS), which launched to the International Space Station in June 2018, provides the highest repeat frequency (1-5 days) of high spatial resolution (70 m) thermal imaging from space. As such, ECOSTRESS has been able to capture the thermal signal of a multitude of climate events and phenomena throughout the planet with exquisite detail since its launch. These include, for example: droughts in Central America, fires in Amazonia and Australia, locust swarm-induced agricultural damage in Africa, world heritage site mangrove stresses, urban heat waves, and even hurricanes. Here, we provide a photo essay review of what ECOSTRESS captured for these events.
