Abstract:
Dense urban observing networks offer the promise of constraining emissions of CO2, NOx, CO and aerosol precursors with exceptional detail. Observations from the BEACO2N network in the SF Bay Area before and after the reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic provide an example of the possibilities including characterizing CO2 emissions for each day of week, evaluating differences between urban emissions during the day and the night and attributing emissions to individual source sectors with high fidelity. Examples from our team’s analysis and prospects for further extension to other cities and other chemicals will be described.
