Abstract:
This talk will discuss the potential application of a bias correction
scheme to the Thermosphere Ionosphere Electrodynamics General
Circulation Model, with particular emphasis on its performance duing
a geomagnetic storm event, when errors in geomagnetic driving indices
may be most pronounced. I will describe some observing system
simulation experiments that suggest that simple models of the
evolution of the model bias may be provide meaningful reductions
in 1-hour, root-mean-squared forecasts of electron density in the
D, E, and F layers. Potential future improvements on the basic approach
also will be discussed.
