Climate change, knowledge co-production, and partnership in Kake, Alaska

Abstract:

Climate change is occurring rapidly throughout Alaska and its impacts are disproportionately felt by Indigenous peoples. This presentation explores knowledge co-production and partnership as tools for fostering Indigenous-led science and decision-making related to climate change in Alaska. The Organized Village of Kake, Kake Tribal Corporation, and the City of Kake have partnered with Dr. Elizabeth Figus at the Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and Policy at UAF, to carry out meaningful climate-related research in their community. Stages of this multi-year project in Kake, AK, will be described.
