Extreme Heat: Vulnerability and Risk assessment, Exposure assessment, and Policy implications regarding the adverse effect of extreme heat on health, economy, and natural resources

Session ID#: 119044

Session Description:
Heat events have adverse effect on health, agricultural industry, energy consumption, and economy. The frequency and the extent of these events have been increasing due to climate change, and each year we are observing record breaking heat events around the world.

In order to mitigate the adverse effect of heat events, we need to understand the risks involved, identify the vulnerability, assess the exposure and quantify the effects, and plan for prevention/mitigation/adaptation scenarios.

We welcome studies that focus on the effect of extreme heat on public health, natural resources (such as forest fires), and economy through any possible pathway. The main focus of the session is on epidemiological studies, exposure assessments, and policy measures that facilitate adaptation and mitigation of the effects; we also welcome studies that work towards mitigation of damages through public awareness.
