From the Sun to the Local Interstellar Medium
From the Sun to the Local Interstellar Medium
Session ID#: 119878
Session Description:
The Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP) mission, expected to launch in 2025, will accommodate a ten-instrument suite providing in-situ and remote sensing observations, in order to address fundamental issues in heliophysics. These issues include the properties of the local interstellar medium (LISM), the interaction of the solar wind with the LISM, the temporal and spatial evolution of the heliosphere boundaries, and how the solar wind/LISM interaction is being affected by particle acceleration occurring near the sun and throughout the heliosphere. In addition, the Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX), mission has recently completed a full solar cycle of observations of ENAs from the outer heliosphere and the interstellar medium. In light of these IBEX data, and in anticipation of IMAP’s future discoveries, this session explores the latest scientific advances in the field, by inviting observational, theoretical, and modeling contributions relevant to IMAP, IBEX, Cassini, New Horizons, Voyager, and other pertinent missions.
