Solar flows and fields from the interior to the exterior and implications for magnetic activity

Session ID#: 119988

Session Description:
How and where do solar flows and magnetic fields interact to form both globally organized and local magnetic features that manifest at the surface? How do they evolve in space and time to cause energetic events that eventually impact our terrestrial system? A wealth of observations of flows and fields on the surface and beneath exist for multiple cycles: from the SDO/HMI, SoHO/MDI and GONG instruments. Comprehensive computational techniques to couple these data with realistic physical models are progressing rapidly. Thus, this is an ideal time to explore more realistically the causes and consequences of magnetic activity from the interior to the surface, the influence of variations on heliospheric conditions, and their impacts on the terrestrial system through space weather. We welcome contributions from the community and from the coordinated and complementary COFFIES Heliophysics DRIVE Science Center and 2019 LWS FST #4 activities, which are ripening to their second year.
