Solar-Terrestrial Interactions and the Resulting Dayside Transients
Solar-Terrestrial Interactions and the Resulting Dayside Transients
Session ID#: 122968
Session Description:
Ground-based and satellite measurements indicate that there are a wide variety of dayside transient events due to the episodic coupling between the solar wind and the Earth’s magnetosphere. This session will focus on observational and theoretical studies of dayside transients such as flux transfer events, magnetic impulse events, traveling convection vortices, convection flow channels, and poleward moving auroral forms. The emphasis here is on identifying the mechanisms driving the events and establishing their significance via studies combining observations from spacecraft and ground-based instruments within the context of results from theoretical models and computer simulations.
