Sun-induced chlorophyll fluorescence as a proxy of photosynthesis: measurements, modeling, and applications from field, airborne, and satellite platforms

Session ID#: 120067

Session Description:
Measurements of sun-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) from ground, airborne, and satellite platforms are poised to advance research in earth system science and global environmental change. This session focuses on measurements, modeling, and applications of SIF at a range of temporal and spatial scales. We welcome contributions within three broad themes: (1) advances in observing and monitoring technologies of SIF from field, airborne, and satellite platforms; (2) research applications of SIF to understand spatio-temporal variability of vegetation photosynthesis and related plant physiological processes; and (3) practical applications of SIF to issues of social significance, such as monitoring of agricultural and forest systems in the context of managing food security, carbon cycling, and/or other ecosystem services. We especially encourage contributions that explore the integrative use of fluorescence and other remote sensing measurements, including hyperspectral, thermal, and LiDAR remote sensing, and/or the integrative use of machine learning and process-based modeling approaches.
