Turbulence, magnetic reconnection, and particle acceleration in the solar corona and the solar wind
Turbulence, magnetic reconnection, and particle acceleration in the solar corona and the solar wind
Session ID#: 120170
Session Description:
Magnetic turbulence, magnetic reconnection, and associated particle heating and acceleration are among the primary mechanisms defining nonlinear dynamics of weakly collisional space plasma. Recent studies of the solar corona, solar flares, the solar wind, as well as other space and astrophysical systems, bring interest to the mechanisms by which these three fundamental nonlinear phenomena influence each other. This session welcomes contributions from the observational, numerical, laboratory, and theoretical studies. Topics of interest include characterization of magnetohydrodynamic and kinetic-scale turbulence in the solar corona and the solar wind, reconnection events triggered by turbulence and turbulence generated by reconnection events, as well as the link between these processes and the generation of non-thermal particle populations.
