Advancing Research on the Hydro-climate of South America
Advancing Research on the Hydro-climate of South America
Session ID#: 122161
Session Description:
South America plays an important role in regional and global climate. Despite this, our understanding of the hydro-climate of South America is limited largely due to the difficulty in adequately resolving via observations or model simulation the mesoscale phenomenon leading to the observed hydro-climate as well as it’s extremes. In this session, we invite abstracts on the South American hydro-climate, including studies using the newly performed Convective Permitting Climate Model simulations created with the Weather, Research and Forecasting (WRF) modeling system to investigate the mesoscale factors impacting the hydro-climate for typical and extreme events in South America. We also welcome research conducted within the CORDEX Framework for South America. For both frameworks, we welcome abstracts describing research on the topics of land-atmosphere interactions, convective processes, orographic processes, observations and multi-model comparisons specific to South America. This session is organized by the recently formed South America Affinity Group (SAAG).
