Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion from an International Perspective: Issues, Priorities and Opportunities
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion from an International Perspective: Issues, Priorities and Opportunities
Session ID#: 124178
Session Description:
AGU’s new Strategic plan includes a goal to promote and exemplify an inclusive scientific culture, and includes an aspirational statement that we will assure that diversity, inclusion, equity, ethics and cultural awareness are sewn into the fabric of all our activities. However, AGU represents scientists in more than 138 countries, and >40% of AGU members and >50% of AGU publications first authors are from outside the U.S. Both numbers are growing. Based on these AGU demographics trends, it is important to understand international perspectives on inclusive science priorities and opportunities from different regions of the world. Other organizations such as the European Geosciences Union and the Japan Geoscience Union have also undertaken work to address issues of ethics and equity in the geosciences.
This session invites papers and contributions to help explore and understand definitions, issues, opportunities and priorities in advancing diversity, equity and inclusion across the global geoscience community.
