Accounting for Land Use and Land Cover Changes in Climate Models

Session ID#: 124466

Session Description:
Land use and land cover changes (LULCCs) are both causes and consequences of climate change. Climate models have devoted efforts to account for the the biogeophysical and biogeochemical impacts of LULCC, yet LULCC is still one of the most uncertain components in climate models. Great challenges exist in representations of LULCC forcing and its impact on biogeophysical and biogeochemical processes in climate models. The focus of this session is to discuss the challenges and limitations of accounting for LULCC in climate models at different spatial and temporal scales. We welcome contributions on, but not limited to, comparisons and analyses on different LULCC observations and models in hotspot regions and their climate implications, representations of individual LULCC activities and processes in climate models, and interactions between LULCC activities and biogeophysical and biogeochemical processes.
