Unraveling atmospheric aerosol processes across scales

Session ID#: 157685

Session Description:
Atmospheric aerosols play essential roles in several critical atmospheric processes (e.g., aerosol transportation, cloud condensation, heterogeneous ice nucleation, heterogeneous chemistry, photochemistry), which usually depend on various aerosol properties (e.g., the cloud condensation process and atmospheric aging processes depend on aerosols’ morphology, chemical composition, phase state, etc.). Moreover, aerosol properties at multi-scales exhibit tremendous variability and remain a challenge in predicting aerosol effects on Earth’s climate. Therefore, to retrieve a more comprehensive picture of the climate effects of atmospheric aerosols, it is critical to apply multi-modal measurements and/or model simulation that can retrieve various aerosol properties across scales. This session invites submissions on laboratory, field measurements, remote sensing, and/or modeling studies investigating the influence of different aerosols properties on the aerosols’ roles in atmospheric processes adopting multi-modal methods. Studies that apply advances in understanding multi-scale processes to improve the aerosol representation in large-scale models are welcome.
