Earth System Reanalysis

Session ID#: 157727

Session Description:
In the past reanalyses based on data assimilation were conducted separately in the atmosphere and ocean. This session will deal with state of the art of reanalyses and data assimilation in the Earth system. It will address the issues of data assimilation in a coupled Earth system model, will deal with non-linearities in the system, with predictability limited as well as new parameters such as soil water content and carbon that need to be considered in an Earth system context of data assimilation. Central to the discussion will also be parameter optimization and climate model improvement in the context of climate and Earth system model data assimilation.
Co-Organized:
  • A - Atmospheric Sciences
  • C - Cryosphere
  • GC - Global Environmental Change
  • NG - Nonlinear Geophysics
Co-Sponsor(s):
  • AMS: American Meteorological Society -
  • WCRP: World Climate Research Programme -
