Subsurface Processes in the Hydrogen Economy
Session ID#: 157853
Session Description:
The objective of the session is to understand the current state-of-knowledge and introduce emerging models for subsurface flow and storage of hydrogen, including chemical interactions with geologic media, rheology of reservoirs and caprocks, and long-term performance of various storage modes. Additionally, we are interested in presentations concerning the utilization of hydrogen, methods of hydrogen production, ammonia as an intermediate commodity for hydrogen use, and models of the future impacts of subsurface storage in a hydrogen economy. We invite contributions that delve into fundamental processes and results that promote characterization of hydrogen from subsurface storage to end-use applications.
This session targets a cross-disciplinary discussion that broadly incorporates aspects of:
- Physics and chemistry of underground H2 storage
- Engineering design considerations of H2 storage
- Interactions between H2 and wellbore materials
- Techno-economic optimization of H2 utilization and storage
- Current and future engineering policy considerations
- Risk assessment of underground H2 storage
