Understanding the Influences of Sedimentary and Oceanographic Processes on Geochemical Archives across Geologic Time

Session ID#: 157956

Session Description:
The chemical composition of sedimentary archives underlies much of our understanding of the coupled biological and chemical evolution of Earth across geologic time. However, sedimentary and oceanographic parameters, ranging from sedimentation rate to the strength of the overturning circulation and diagenetic reactions, alter the chemical and isotopic composition of marine sedimentary deposits. Resolving the role of such processes in regulating sedimentary geochemistry is critical for challenging traditional interpretations of geologic archives and for improving our understanding of Earth’s chemical evolution. We welcome abstract submissions across a range of disciplines (sedimentology, oceanography, geology), time scales (recent, Precambrian), samples (pore fluids, sediments, rocks), and approaches (experimental, modeling) that address the roles of sedimentology and oceanography in regulating the major and trace elemental and/or major and minor isotopic composition of marine sediments and sedimentary rocks (carbonate, chert, mudstone, siltstone, shale). We particularly encourage abstract submissions from early-career researchers and scientists in underrepresented groups.
