Advancing Global Imaging Spectroscopy and Thermal Infrared Measurements
Advancing Global Imaging Spectroscopy and Thermal Infrared Measurements
Session ID#: 158104
Session Description:
New remote measurements with solar-reflected imaging spectroscopy and thermal infrared imaging are revolutionizing Earth surface studies. Orbital investigations now being conducted by space agencies worldwide include missions like HiSUI (Japan), EnMAP (Germany), ECOSTRESS and EMIT (USA), PRISMA (Italy), DESIS (Germany), and anticipated investigations like SBG (USA), CHIME and LSTM (ESA), and TRISHNA (France/India).
This session will survey airborne precursor research and new results from the orbital instruments. We will highlight progress in translating local models to address Earth system questions at regional and global scales. We will also discuss planning and preparation for the next generation of orbital imaging spectrometer and thermal infrared missions. Our themes include: coral reef surveys; volcano investigations; surface ecology and biodiversity studies; aquatic ecosystem and water quality monitoring; hydrology studies, including ice and snow characterization; land use and water use studies; wildfires; urban studies; and more.
