SY011
Science to Action – Working across Physical and Social Scientific Disciplines to Deliver Data Products that Support Climate Resilience in the Energy Sector.

Session ID#: 158390

Session Description:
This session will explore the integration of highly technical scientific understanding of climate change with processes leading to the design of energy infrastructure resilience and mitigation strategies. Deep collaboration between scientists, regional and national agencies, utilities and policymakers has proven critical to understand climate-related problems and solutions, and to evaluate viability and consequences of mitigation and adaptation strategies.  Evidence-based decision-making rooted in knowledge exchange is challenging, but co-production is part of a critical transformation that is needed as we move towards a low-carbon future in a changing climate.

Presentations are invited that showcase and discuss:

  • Inter-disciplinary collaboration that led to institutional uptake of climate science,
  • Lessons learned on how collaboration impacted the design, application and sharing of scientific research in order to understand the impacts of climate change and mitigate the potential effects on energy infrastructure,
  • Barriers/difficulties experienced in funding, conducting, or reporting on such collaborations.
