SY012
Funding schemes on the local scale and their role in international collaborations

Session ID#: 162263

Session Description:
We take a critical look at how international projects and local funding interplays. Many grants and projects are awarded to local researchers at local institutes. However, a vast amount of scientific efforts and collaborations are transnational, with teams from different research groups contributing resources in the form of man-hours, computational power and lab equipment to shared projects. The allocation and distribution of these resources is thereby often hindered by requirements of such local funding schemes.

We aim to start a critical discussion on how to reconcile these requirements, by e.g. discussing how local funding has been acquired and subsequently applied in international collaborative projects. By inviting researchers involved in community-wide projects from different fields, we hope to foster and forward this discussion. We believe this discussion is beneficial to both the careers of individual (early career) researchers themselves, and to help further global scientific collaboration within Earth Sciences at large.
