Quantifying Relative Sea Level Across Space and Time

Session ID#: 158734

Session Description:
Whether to improve our forecasts of future sea-level rise or to better understand the effects of geohazards in coastal regions, we require accurate and suitably precise estimates of past changes in sea level or land level over timescales spanning decades to millions of years.

Despite advances in geochronology and the use of various biological, chemical, and stratigraphic proxies, quantifying and recognizing the source of uncertainties in relative sea level remains a key challenge.

We welcome contributions investigating all time periods and employing any technique(s) (including field observations, remote sensing, and numerical modeling) to quantify global or regional relative sea level, including measuring the effect of glacial isostatic adjustment and recognizing the signatures of tectonic deformation in coastal landscapes.

We encourage multi-disciplinary submissions that utilize varied proxies, combine observations with numerical models, or integrate relative sea-level/land-level histories across spatial and temporal scales.
