Advances in Characterizing and Monitoring Land Cover/Use and Associated Ecosystem Changes Using Remote Sensing Data
Session ID#: 159014
Session Description:
Land cover and land use change alter a large range of terrestrial biological and physical conditions. These changes combined with climate change have profound impacts on the Earth surface at regional to global scales. Recent advances in remote sensing, spatial and ecosystem modeling, and computer technologies have facilitated the use of large volumes of satellite and climate data to conduct land change and impact assessments across large geographic areas at multiple temporal scales. These assessments can improve environmental modeling efforts and advance our understanding of the drivers and the impacts of land cover and land use change on ecosystems and climate. This session highlights advances in remote sensing of land system change including but not limited to land cover/use, wildfire and drought effects, coastal change, and ecosystem responses to climate change across regional and large geographical areas. We seek contributions including multi-temporal datasets, innovative analytical frameworks, and models to advance our scientific understanding of the types, trends, magnitudes, and consequences related to changes in land cover/use and application of ecosystem and climate monitoring capabilities.
