Past climates and environments of Southeast Asia and The Indo-Pacific
Past climates and environments of Southeast Asia and The Indo-Pacific
Session ID#: 159173
Session Description:
Southeast Asia is home to one-fifth of the world’s population. This region and its surrounding oceans host multiple climate phenomena including East Asian Monsoon and the Indian Ocean Dipole, and they significantly shape regional and global climates. Due to anthropogenic warming, this region has experienced unprecedentedly increased weather extremes such as tropical storms, floods, droughts, and heatwaves. However, future local/regional climate and environment changes in Southeast Asia are poorly constrained due to the complexity of climate dynamics over land and Indo-Pacific oceans. Past climate and environment changes offer an opportunity to evaluate modern-future responses to anthropogenic climate change based on past responses to a wide geologic range of thermal states. We invite contributions that focus on past climate, hydroclimate, and terrestrial and marine environmental studies of Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific across all temporal scales. We welcome studies using archives, proxies, statistical analyses, modelings, as well as novel analytical techniques.
